Pouring monsoon rains could not damper our spirit on Janmasthami, the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth. Sure Vrindavan got a little soaked and the dancing had to move inside but all the gopis and gwalas lit up the ashram with their joy and beauty. It’s one big kodak moment, join us next year if you can.

Many Thanks

To Manju Nair, who visited from England for two weeks. Manju helped coordinate curriculum in the school including a four day training for the teachers. In the afternoon she devoted herself to helping the ashram children prepare for their exams. Manju Nair

Baby Sita

Sita is six months old

Baby Sita is six months old! The epitome of a survivor, showcasing the amazing will of a 3 ½ lb baby (1.6kg) to survive.

Last February a man from a village 35 kilometers away brought an infant girl to Sri Ram Ashram. He found her in a sugarcane field wrapped in a blanket still wet behind the ears. When she arrived we couldn’t get a temperature, her blood sugar was 46 and she was so very tiny. She spent one night in a local hospital before transferring to a larger hospital in Delhi. We wanted to make sure she could drink, retain her body heat and weight before bringing her home. One week later she arrived home in all her glory.

Team Sita quickly formed surrounding her with peace, quiet, love and care. We fed her from a diya, an Indian ceremonial dish, until she was strong enough to suck from a bottle, we cheered her first weight gain and cooed every move. Finding clothes small enough was a challenge so a knitting circle quickly gathered. It certainly doesn’t take long to knit for a 3 ½ pounder. Through it all Sita slept, drank and thrived.

On her six month birthday she is an integral part of the ashram, always off with her siblings to far flung corners of the ashram. She now weighs 13 ¾ lbs (6.25 kg) and will have her food puja later this month. She is a champion smiler and pure pleasure to have.

Many thanks to team Sita, you are the greatest.
