Lifting Dreams
In May 2010 long supporter Vinaya Malmet came to India for three weeks to film a documentary about Sri Ram Ashram. This past Sunday the ashram hosted the India premiere of ‘Lifting Dreams’. We coupled the event with a tea party for local Haridwar supporters. The children wore their Lifting Dreams t-shirts proudly as they greeted guests. We showed the movie outside in the courtyard. The weather was perfect.
The evening wasn’t without drama. We blew up four different electronic components before settling on a precarious melding of cords, outlets, tape and converters to get through the screening. We showed the movie earlier than planned before further mishap could happen.
And finally the movie. What a stunning visual treat. Beautiful story line, music and (if I do say so myself) children. I will need to watch it a few more times to fully absorb what we saw but what I do know, what I am most thankful for, is that the children loved the movie. There were tears watching Babaji, laughter watching themselves, but mainly they were proud. Proud of who they are, their home, their life. What they have accomplished, what they can accomplish. They truly believe in Lifting their Dreams.
Reaction from the guests was palpable. In the days following we received offers of support, vocational training, future employment, gratitude and amazement. We ended the evening with some dances by the children. The guests clapped along, the children were spectacular. Full of confidence and vitality, sure in who they are and what they can become.
Many thanks to Vinaya and her talented crew who so generously gave their time and skills to create a movie we will all appreciate for many years to come.

Today was baby Jhanvi’s food puja, a traditional ceremony that honors a baby’s transition to regular food. Jhanvi, who was found abandoned in some bushes by the side of the road is six months old with bright rosey red cheeks and a beautiful disposition. She is very popular and well loved by all.
Today a group of Japanese visited. They brought balloons, we danced, sang and had a great time together. Many thanks to our visitors.

On February 1st Sri Ram Ashram children participated in waste reduction day by picking up trash on a footpath just outside the ashram. Photos were then sent to class 5 students at Mount Madonna School in Watsonville, California as part of their class project. Asked what they learned? “It only takes a few minutes to make an area look nicer”.

Heartfelt thanks to Crossfit Calgary members Brett Marshall, Yasmin Dean and Amy Lafleche and to Jesse O’brian from Westlake Crossfit, Austin, Texas. All four visited the ashram from January 17-20th to give Crossfit training to the children of Crossfit Sri Ram Ashram. Besides bringing a host of equipment including the epic GHD, the children received implacable training and experience. From instruction to workouts: basketball and Frisbee, holding babies, puppies and toddlers, pushing children on swings, dancing et al, a great time was had by all. You showed the children where to set the bar a lesson they will never forget. Thank you!

Our dear friends Ranu, Rohit and Ravisha Bhargava hosted a new years day party for us. We played games in the daylight and danced the night away.
